University of Florida <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

A 70-credit program leading to the Au.D. is offered for applicants holding an earned<br />

master's degree in audiology from an accredited institution.<br />

A 45-credit program leading to the Au.D. is offered for applicants holding an earned<br />

master's from an accredited institution, certification and/or licensure in audiology,<br />

and at least 3 years of full-time experience in audiology.<br />

Supervisory committee: Supervisory committees are nominated by the chair of the<br />

Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, approved by the college<br />

dean and the dean of the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

The committee should be appointed as soon as possible after the student starts the<br />

program and, in general, no later than the end of the second term of equivalent fulltime<br />

study. The supervisory committee shall consist of no fewer than two members<br />

of the audiology <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty.<br />

Duties of the supervisory committee include curriculum planning for the student,<br />

annual evaluation of the student's progress in the program including administration of<br />

the oral and written comprehensive examination in the third year of study, and<br />

determining successful completion of the audiology research project.<br />

Comprehensive examination, required for all Au.D. candidates, may be taken during<br />

the eighth term of study beyond the bachelor's degree. Both written and oral, this<br />

examination is prepared and evaluated by the supervisory committee, which is<br />

responsible for determining whether the student is qualified to continue work toward<br />

the degree by completing the clinical residency.<br />

Doctor of Education<br />

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree offers advanced professional training and<br />

academic preparation for the highest levels of educational practice. Programs are<br />

available in the <strong>School</strong> of Teaching and Learning, the <strong>School</strong> of Special Education,<br />

<strong>School</strong> Psychology, and Early Childhood Studies, and the <strong>School</strong> of Human<br />

Development and Organizational Studies in Education.<br />

A minimum of 90 credits beyond the bachelor's degree (master's degrees included<br />

must be in the last 7 years) is required. Course requirements vary with the academic<br />

unit and with the student's plan for research and/or professional pursuit. With the<br />

approval of the supervisory committee, the student may choose one or more minor<br />

fields of study. The Ed.D. requires a qualifying examination and a dissertation.<br />
