PHC 6107: Introduction to Veterinary Public Health (1) Prereq:<br />

admission to DVM/MPH program, or consent of instructor. Seminar<br />

introducing DVM/MPH students to veterinary public health. S/U.<br />

PHC 6107C: Introduction to Veterinary Public Health Lab(1)<br />

Prereq: admission to DVM/MPH program. Seminar introducting<br />

DVM/MPH students to veterinary public health.<br />

VME 5162C: Avian Diseases (3) Causes, epizootiology, diagnosis,<br />

and methods of prevention and control of avian diseases. Not open<br />

to students who have taken VME 4162.<br />

VME 5244: Physiology: Organ Systems (4) Prereq: knowledge of<br />

general biochemistry. Emphasizes domestic animals commonly<br />

encountered in veterinary medicine. Physiology of nervous, muscle,<br />

blood, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, and<br />

endocrine systems.<br />

VME 6008: Care of Aquatic Megavertebrates (3) Prereq:<br />

consent of instructor. Care of Florida megavertebrates including<br />

dolphins, other cetaceans, manatees, and sea turtles using lectures,<br />

tours, and hands-on experience.<br />

VME 6076C: Andrology (2) Applied male reproductive physiology,<br />

anatomy, and assisted reproduction. Later, student presentations of<br />

a chosen in-depth area.<br />

VME 6135: Diseases of Laboratory Animals I (3) Prereq: DVM<br />

degree and/or consent of instructor. Etiology, pathogenesis, clinical<br />

signs, gross and microscopic pathology, diagnosis, and control of<br />

diseases in laboratory rats, mice, and other rodents. Emphasizes<br />

infectious diseases and understanding and preventing complications<br />

from disease in modern biomedical research.<br />

VME 6136: Diseases of Laboratory Animals II (3) Prereq: DVM<br />

degree and/or consent of instructor. Etiology, pathogenesis, gross<br />

and microscopic pathology, diagnosis, and control of diseases of<br />

laboratory primates, rabbits, ferrets, and miscellaneous species.<br />

Emphasizes infectious diseases and understanding and preventing<br />

complications from disease in modern biomedical research.<br />

VME 6186: Advanced Topics in Disease Pathogenesis (2-4;<br />

max: 10) Prereq: advanced course in immunology, molecular<br />

pathogenesis, or pathology. Current research on pathogenetic<br />

mechanisms of diseases. Molecular and cellular mechanisms of cell<br />

injury and death, repair, inflammation, neoplasia, hemodynamic<br />

disorders, and other diseases.<br />

VME 6421: Biology and Molecular Biology of Avian Viruses (2;<br />

max: 4) Prereq: general virology and immunology. Current scientific<br />

papers on biology of avian viruses of economic importance and on<br />

molecular approaches to understanding gene expression and<br />

function for diagnosis and immunization.<br />

VME 6430C: Contemporary Issues in Small Animal Surgery (3;
