pares do cientista.
ABSTRACT
Within the perspective of the French line of Discourse Analysis, this work analyses the
generalities and the singularities in five genres of the science popularization discourse as
diffused by the electronic magazine ComCiencia: article, report, review, interview and news.
As proposed by ZAMBONI (1997), the analysis shows that in the science popularization
process there is in fact a work of formulating a new discourse, which begins from the
scientific discourse – not just reformulating or recodifying it – and applies to another public,
wider than that of the scientist’s peers. This popularization work consists upon choices linked
either to the linguistic style – i.e., to resources available inside the language (according to
BAKHTIN, 1997 and POSSENTI, 1988) – or related to the very journalistic practice. This
dissertation also shows that besides the generalities of the discourses in general (i.e., their
dialogical and subjective character), and the generalities of science popularization in
particular (for example, the focus on the laic public), there are peculiarities in each one of the
genres approached here, mainly regarding their compositional structure.
KEY WORS: scientific popularization, scientific journalism, language, discourse analysis
and Internet
