for the entire population, particularly the most vulnerable sectors, eradicating
hunger and poverty, ensuring access to adequate housing, decent and proper
employment, as well as universal and quality access to basic health and
education services.
In this context, they stressed the importance of strengthening southsouth
and triangular cooperation for complementing the national development
efforts of middle-income countries in the fight against poverty and for the
timely achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
10. As representatives of multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual
societies, they reaffirmed the importance of diversity and expressed their
concern at the increase of xenophobia and discrimination in the world
and at initiatives which impede the free movement of people. In this
context, they condemned the criminalization of migration flows and
measures that violate the human rights of migrants. They reaffirmed that
the free movement of people is as important as the circulation of goods
and capital.
11. They reiterated their commitment to sustainable development and
stressed that the unsustainable patterns of production and consumption,
particularly in the developed countries, threaten the environment and the climatic
balance, and cause the rapid depletion of natural resources at the global level.
12. They expressed their support for the adoption in 2010 of a legally
binding international regime on access to and distribution of the benefits derived
from the use of genetic resources and related traditional knowledge under the
Convention on Biological Diversity, and in conformity with their national
legislations, as appropriate.
13. They urged the international community to support the developing
countries, through international financial compensation mechanisms, in their
efforts to conserve and manage their forests on a sustainable basis. They also
recommended the study of proposals such as that of a Green Fund.
14. They stressed their commitment to the full, efficient and sustained
implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and
the Kyoto Protocol in a global effort based on the principles of common but
