for the entire population, particularly the most vulnerable sectors, eradicating<br />

hunger and poverty, ensuring access to adequate housing, decent and proper<br />

employment, as well as universal and quality access to basic health and<br />

education services.<br />

In this context, they stressed the importance of strengthening southsouth<br />

and triangular cooperation for complementing the national development<br />

efforts of middle-income countries in the fight against poverty and for the<br />

timely achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.<br />

10. As representatives of multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual<br />

societies, they reaffirmed the importance of diversity and expressed their<br />

concern at the increase of xenophobia and discrimination in the world<br />

and at initiatives which impede the free movement of people. In this<br />

context, they condemned the criminalization of migration flows and<br />

measures that violate the human rights of migrants. They reaffirmed that<br />

the free movement of people is as important as the circulation of goods<br />

and capital.<br />

11. They reiterated their commitment to sustainable development and<br />

stressed that the unsustainable patterns of production and consumption,<br />

particularly in the developed countries, threaten the environment and the climatic<br />

balance, and cause the rapid depletion of natural resources at the global level.<br />

12. They expressed their support for the adoption in 2010 of a legally<br />

binding international regime on access to and distribution of the benefits derived<br />

from the use of genetic resources and related traditional knowledge under the<br />

Convention on Biological Diversity, and in conformity with their national<br />

legislations, as appropriate.<br />

13. They urged the international community to support the developing<br />

countries, through international financial compensation mechanisms, in their<br />

efforts to conserve and manage their forests on a sustainable basis. They also<br />

recommended the study of proposals such as that of a Green Fund.<br />

14. They stressed their commitment to the full, efficient and sustained<br />

implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and<br />

the Kyoto Protocol in a global effort based on the principles of common but<br />
