Communiqué to Support the Request by the Centro-American<br />

Integration System to the European Comission to continue granting<br />

to Panama the SGP+ regime benefits<br />

REQUESTS the European Commission to continue granting to Panama<br />

the benefits of the special regime to foster sustainable development and<br />

governance (SGP+) for the period 2009-2011, so as not to affect the existing<br />

trade flow and jobs in a country that has demonstrated full compliance with<br />

the substantive requirements for continuing to be associated with this<br />

cooperation scheme.<br />

Communiqué to support Bolivia<br />

The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, on the occasion of<br />

the Summit held in Salvador (Bahia):<br />

REITERATE the importance of the indispensable collaboration and<br />

cooperation concerning trade promotion,<br />

AWARE that the common struggle against the world problem of drugs is<br />

a priority not only of our region but also of other countries and blocs of States;<br />

URGE the Government of the United States of America to continue granting<br />

to Bolivia the benefits of the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication<br />

Act (ATPDEA), in view of its effect on trade flows and employment in Bolivia,<br />

and encourage the Governments of the United States and Bolivia to undertake<br />

efforts within a framework of dialogue and mutual respect aimed at continuing<br />

cooperation in this area.<br />

CALC initiative as regards the World Financial Crisis<br />

The Heads of State and Chiefs of Government of Latin America and the<br />

Caribbean convened in Salvador, Bahia, 16-17 December 2008:<br />

Considering the need to agree upon a common Latin American and<br />

Caribbean position in the face of the international financial crisis and the<br />

necessary changes to advance towards a new financial architecture;<br />
