Background:
The Equine Study Group (NEQUI) of the Animal
Science Department at UFLA was founded on April
5th, 2005, by undergraduate and graduate students
from the Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine and
Agronomy departments, under the coordination
of Prof. José Augusto de Freitas Lima. From 2011
on, under the coordination of Prof. Raquel Silva de
Moura, NEQUI still maintains as its main objective to
contribute to the training of human resources and to
increase specialization in the scientific and technical
knowledge of equine husbandry, and promotion and
experience exchanges between theory and practice
with horses, donkeys and mules in Brazil. The
management of Equid Sector of the Department
of ANIMAL SCIENCE of UFLA was carried out by
its members. And scholars interested in practical
teaching of equine husbandry, with the possibility of
support for research and extension projects in the
area, should enroll in curriculum experience activities
for the admission process for NEQUI.
Overall Objectives:
To contribute to the training of human resources and
to increase specialization in the scientific and technical
knowledge of equine husbandry, and promotion and
experience exchanges between theory and practice
with horses, donkeys and mules in Brazil.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Agricultural Sciences: Professionals trained to work in
agricultural activities with direct or indirect demand for
the use of equids.
2. Animal Science: General management of equids, such
as nutrition, reproduction, riding and hoof care, among
others.
3. Veterinary Medicine: General management of equids,
such as sanitary management and preventive veterinary
medicine, reproduction, hoof care, etc.
