Background:
Created in September 2014, the Center for Studies in
Herbicides, Weeds and Allelopathy - GHPD became
part of the Weed Sector of the Federal University of
Lavras - UFLA. It is headquartered at the Coffee
Innovation Agency - INOVACAFÉ, and is part of the
Department of Agriculture - DAG. It develops research
in the university on weed management in various crop
plants, as well as activities involving the interaction
of allelochemicals with the environment. The group’s
activities generate research data published in
congresses, academic journals, newsletters and other
extension events for farmers. It participates actively in
the organization of several extension events to spread
knowledge generated in the academic environment
to farmers, such as EXPOCAFÉ, the Southern Minas
Gerais Coffee Growers Meeting, and cycles of lectures,
among others.
Overall Objectives:
To bring together professionals and students to
enhance knowledge on the taxonomy, diversity and
biotechnological potential of fungi belonging to
the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium; to develop
techniques to assist the identification, preservation
and maintenance of these fungal cultures.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Weed Management: Development of studies
involving the management of weeds in various crop
plants.
2. Allelopathy: Identification and measurement of the
interaction of allelochemicals with the environment.
3. Weed ecology: Study of the ecology and physiology
of weeds as an auxiliary tool in their control.
4. Application technologies: Study of the correct
application technologies used in herbicide application
for weed management.
