Background:
Gere was created in May 2007 by the students Camilla
Raymundo, Rafael Rocha and Carlos Avelar, and by
the professor and group’s supervisor José Camisão
de Souza in order to bring together professionals,
students, professors, producers, technicians (among
others) interested and/or engaged in activities
related to the study of animal production, focuses
on reproduction. To this end, Gere holds meetings
every Monday at 6 pm to discuss ongoing activities
and new work proposals, besides presentations and
discussions of seminars related to the reproduction
of animals of economic interest. In addition, the
group promotes lectures, lecture cycles, field work
and experiments.
Overall Objectives:
To design, produce and publicize research papers; to
organize and carry out extension activities; to foster
information exchange and cooperation with related
entities; to foster the improvement and development of
professors and undergraduate and graduate students.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Reproductive Management: Control of breeding
season, inseminations, mating, hormonal protocols,
births, neonatal care, pre- and postpartum management.
2. Animal Production: Production of larger quantities
of animal products in less time and with lower cost
and better quality.
3. Animal Nutrition: Animal development and health,
aiming at increased production.
4. Hygiene: Development and reproduction as
planned, exploiting the full potential of animals.
