Background:

The Center for Studies in Landscaping and

Floriculture was created in 2001 under the supervision

of Professor Patrícia Paiva with the aim of broadening

debates and studies in the areas of landscaping and

floriculture within the Federal University of Lavras,

and also working on extension proposals that may

contribute to spread acquired knowledge outside the

university. The center has already developed several

projects in schools and neighborhoods of the city of

Lavras; organized courses of floral arrangements,

orchids, and AutoCAD; and held a cycle of

lectures in floriculture and landscaping. Every two

years it organizes the International Landscaping

Symposium.

Overall Objectives:

To bring together researchers, professors, students and other

people interested in landscaping and floriculture, seeking

to encourage the spread of knowledge generated in this area

through teaching, scientific research and extension.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Landscaping: Research of garden histories and

identification of species. Organization of cycles of

lectures, symposiums and courses in the area.

2. Floriculture: Performance of experiments in

floriculture. Organization of cycles of lectures,

symposiums and courses in the area.

3. Floral Arrangements: Preparation of arrangements

for university events and flower arrangement workshops

for the local community.

4. Landscape Design: Development of landscape design

in municipal schools, hospitals, public squares and

philanthropic institutions.
