Background:
This group was created from a personal desire of
Professor Raoni Machado to follow up on his masters
and doctoral studies at UFLA, bringing Olympism closer
to that academic community. In addition, Professor
Raoni Machado is a member of the Brazilian Olympic
Academy and the International Olympic Academy, and
has often been invited to participate in events at its
headquarters in Olympia, Greece, acquiring important
knowledge that needs to be developed at UFLA.
Overall Objectives:
To study sport as a sociocultural phenomenon in its
various possibilities.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Olympism: Study of sport as a social phenomenon.
2. Physical Activities in Nature: Study of the peculiarities
of those practices and their social meaning.
3. School Sport: Study of how sports can be used as an
element of physical education in schools.
