Background:
Research carried out in the Laboratory of Microbiology
of the Department of Zootechnics and the inclusion of
new collaborators in these studies revealed the need
to create a group to engage in a more comprehensive
debate regarding the rules of laboratory use, as well
as the projects carried out by individual members,
allowing greater interaction among participants.
Faced with this need, Professor Roberto Maciel
sought, together with his students, the opportunity to
organize a study group for this purpose. The group
is expected to contribute to the area, evaluating
standards of scientific communication with a view
to preserving the quality of consolidated titles and a
reference point for those titles that are beginning and
in search of excellence. The group intends to stimulate
the development of research, extension activities, and
partnerships with entities aimed at enhancing the
benefits of the Zootechnics course for the local society,
as well as contribute to the training of scholars.
Overall Objectives:
To foster continuous learning in the area of
zootechnical microbiology and disseminate knowledge
through activities open to the academic community,
such as meetings, lectures, workshops, symposiums,
conferences and courses.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Milk: Evaluation of microbiological quality and
identification of microorganisms responsible for
subclinical mastitis.
2. Silage: Evaluation of microbiological quality and
aerobic stability of silages
3. Antimicrobials: Profile of resistance and sensitivity of
bacteria to natural and synthetic antimicrobials.
4. Hygiene in Industry: Study of the formation of biofilms
on surfaces used in dairy farms and slaughterhouses
and their method of control.
