Background:
According to some accounts, NEO was founded in
the 1980s, but there are no founding minutes. Thus,
it has legally existed since July 1, 2009. Since then the
center has developed several activities in the area of ​
olericulture aiming to promote greater involvement
among professors, students and the community. It
enjoys the active participation of undergraduate and
graduate students, professors and staff with a variable
number of members, which on occasion exceeds 30
participants. It works intensely both with the academic
community and the external community, assisting in
the creation of vegetable gardens in communities and
schools. It has constantly organized technical events
open to the academic and external community, such
as lectures, courses and workshops. Recently, NEO
held the I Workshop of Non-Conventional Green
Vegetables, an event attended by renowned names
in the area, students from various institutions and
regional producers.
Overall Objectives:
To provide its members with a greater theoretical and
practical knowledge on the subject by holding weekly
meetings and extra activities such as courses, training,
lectures, consulting services, organization of events,
field work and projects.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Vegetable Cultivation: Activities related to the
commercial and academic growing of green vegetables.
2. Research: Members work on research projects linked
to theses and dissertations.
3. Extension: Assistance to communities and schools
in creating vegetable gardens.
4. Consulting Services: Technical advice on the
cultivation of vegetables.
