Background:
The Brazilian Forage Team (NEFOR) was established in
1999 in the Department of Animal Science at Federal
University of Lavras. Since then it is committed to
provide and disseminate new knowledge on tropical
forage systems. NEFOR has produced more than
five hundred forage specialists acting throughout
Brazil and abroad. Currently, the Team consists of
thirty-seven students (undergraduate and graduate)
and four professors. With these indicators, NEFOR
consolidates itself as one of the most important forage
teams in Brazil.
Overall Objectives:
To seek knowledge in the area of forage production in
order to apply solutions to animal production systems,
and to create conditions within the center for students
to develop critical thinking and contribute to society
in the future.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Pasture Management: Evaluation of forage crops;
response of animals under grazing conditions.
2. Forage Conservation: Evaluation of silages;
supplementary feeding of herds, with a focus on dairy
cattle.
