Background:
The Center for Studies in Processing and Storage of
Agricultural Products (NEPAZEM) was created in March
2014 in the Department of Engineering together with
undergraduate students from several UFLA courses,
such as agricultural and food engineering, agronomy,
and graduate and high school students from the city
of Lavras. The current ongoing activities of NEPAZEM
comprise: 1) Extension Project: development of a grain
dryer for the UFLA experimental farm for the learning
and experiencing of students and people interested in
the subject; 2) Teaching Project: software tool courses
to improve group members’ skills in programs such
as excel, corel draw, auto cad, etc.; 3) Teaching Project:
lectures and seminars addressing subjects related to
the center’s areas of expertise; 4) Mini-Courses Project:
on topics related to the center’s areas of expertise; 5)
Technical Visits Project: an aid to practical learning
through trips and visits to farms, industries, fairs,
cooperatives, agro-industries, etc.
Overall Objectives:
To spread theoretical and practical knowledge on the
use of herbicides, allelopathy and weed management
in various crop plants, developing teaching, research
and extension work.
