Background:

The Center for Studies in Public Administration and Social

Management (NEAPEGS) was founded in 2008. It is the

result of the efforts of professors and undergraduate and

graduate students in business and public administration

of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) to generate

knowledge and democratic management practices. The

research and extension projects of this center seek to

investigate the relations between state, society and market

and analyze public policies, involving the following subjects:

public administration and social management; socioenvironmental

management; management of public policies;

solidarity economy; social technologies; public organizations

and the third sector. Since its foundation, NEAPEGS has

developed indexes of sustainable development to support

decision-making in local public administration, as well as

provided consulting services for the public and third sector,

in order to contribute to the professionalization of public and

social administrators. In addition, it develops the extension

project “UFLA School of Government.”

Overall Objectives:

To carry out research and extension work in the areas

of public administration, social management, socioenvironmental

management, public policies, social

technologies and solidarity economy, organizing scientific

and cultural courses and events, and generating knowledge

for students, public servants and society.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Public Administration: Theories of public administration

and approaches related to patrimonialism, bureaucracy,

managerialism, society, public governance, new public

services.

2. Social Management: Non-state public interest actions

aimed at enhancing the common good.

3. Public Policies: Analysis of the conception, implementation

and evaluation of various modalities of public policies.

4. Third Sector: Management of third sector organizations

concerning relations between state, civil society and market.
