Núcleo de Estudos

Person in Charge:

Professor Rodrigo Norberto Pereira

rnorberto.pereira@dmv.ufla.br

Institutional Information:

necciga@dmv.ufla.br

Background:

The Center for Studies in Clinical Practice and Surgery

of Large Animals (NECCIGA) was created on March

17, 2014 to meet the demands of the UFLA course in

veterinary medicine, the residency program of the

Large Animals Hospital (HGA) and the society of

Lavras and surrounding region. NECCIGA develops

activities in training/qualification, technical assistance

and research. The center’s practical activities are

mainly developed at HGA/UFLA and rural properties

in the region through extension and research

projects. Because it is an area of expertise restricted

to veterinarians, NECCIGA only accepts professional

veterinarians or students of veterinary medicine as

members; nevertheless, it develops activities and

events with professionals and students from the most

diverse areas of knowledge. An important part of the

technical training of NECCIGA members is carried

out in the Experiential Activity Program at HGA.

Therefore, we encourage undergraduates who wish to

participate in the center to enroll in those activities.

Likewise, we invite farmers interested in participating

in our extension and technical assistance activities to

contact us at the HGA phone number (35) 3829-3167

or by e-mail address necciga@dmv.ufla.br.

Overall Objectives:

To promote practical and theoretical activities, develop

research projects, and support teaching and extension

in the area of physiology. To participate in campaigns

and other activities to meet the demands of the

community in the health area and extend knowledge

on physiology to students who are not interested in

topics related to human physiology.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Medical-veterinary technical assistance: Medicalveterinary

technical assistance to rural properties

through extension projects.

2. Clinical Practice and Surgery of Large Animals:

Development and dissemination of technical-scientific

knowledge in clinical practice and surgery of large

animals.

3. Animal Health: Action to promote animal health

geared towards to ruminants and equines.
