Background:
The Center for Animal Breeding and Biotechnology -
GMAB was founded in April 2012 in the Department
of Animal Science of the Federal University of
Lavras, under the supervision of Professor Sarah
Laguna Conceição Meirelles and the co-coordination
of Professor Rilke Tadeu Fonseca de Freitas. Since
its inception the group has brought together
undergraduate and graduate students, professors,
researchers and rural producers to study and apply
animal breeding and its biotechnologies through
presentations and weekly discussions on themes
related to animal breeding, courses, lectures,
symposia, field work and participation in fairs,
always addressing updated and significant topics
in enhancement of animal production through the
study and application of biotechnologies and animal
genetic enhancement.
Overall Objectives:
To foster the study of animal breeding and applied
biotechnologies, developing technical training among
members, as well as to mediate integration between the
academic environment and the professional market.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Research: Research of new technologies and tools
used in the animal breeding of domestic animals.
2. Teaching: Teaching of the main concepts of genetics
and animal breeding, and discussion of current
relevant topics in the area.
3. Extension: Use of animal animal breeding
biotechnologies and resources in production, aiming
at higher productivity.
