Background:

Neento was founded in July 2013 by students of the

Department of Entomology, and initially supervised

by Professor Geraldo Andrade Carvalho. It emerged

as an offshoot of the Center for Studies in Integrated

Pest Management (Nemip 2008-2013) with the aim of

addressing other lines of research lines in entomology.

Since its foundation, Neento has already organized

technical-scientific events (mini-courses and cycles of

lectures), extension activities such as “Entomology in

the Square,” as well as social events to integrate the

members of the department. It is currently coordinated

by Professor Rosangela C. Marucci with the assistance

of Professor Luís Claudio Paterno Silveira.

Overall Objectives:

To organize technical and scientific events in the area

of soil science; to raise awareness in society of the

importance of the rational use of land in the best use

of natural resources; to carry out extension activities

related to soil science; to carry out activities in the field

of education in soil science.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Agricultural Entomology: Seminars, lectures, round

tables on insect physiology, behavior and ecology and

their implications for the integrated management of

agricultural pests.

2. Forest Entomology: Seminars, lectures, round tables,

technical visits to companies related to integrated

management of forest pests.

3. Medical-Veterinary and Forensic Entomology:

Seminars, lectures, round tables on interactions

involving insects and/or pathogens in humans and

animals and the use of insects in criminalistics.

4. Education: Events that enable the spread and insertion

of insect knowledge in the local culture and society.
