Background:

The Center for Studies in New Products and Sensory

Analysis, NENP, is a group that works with the

development and improvement of products, from

packaging and design to product processing and

subsequent sensory analysis, therefore seeking to

establish partnerships with companies and technology

centers through extension projects. NENP was created

in 2009 by a group of four students from the Federal

University of Lavras. It currently has 20 members,

supervised by Professor João de Deus Souza Carneiro

with the assistance of Professor Ana Carla Marques

Pinheiro, both of the Department of Food Science -

UFLA.

Overall Objectives:

To develop teaching, research and extension activities in

the area of animal products, bringing together students

from different courses through the organization of

courses, events, projects and other extension action that

may contribute to the construction of knowledge.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Development of new products: and also improvement

of existing products, addressing the various aspects

desired by companies.

2. Sensory analysis: Application of sensory techniques

in the development and evaluation of products and

packaging.

3. Market research and consumer behavior:

Characterization of consumer profiles and possible

niches for the introduction of new products, as well as

new ingredients and types of packaging.

4. Social projects: Social projects enable the exercise of

citizenship, overcoming barriers and prejudices. They

are a means to raise people’s awareness.”
