Biology - NESBI
Núcleo de Estudos
Person in Charge:

Institutional Information:
nesbiufla@gmail.com
Background:
NESBI is a study center based at UFLA since the first
semester of 2013, linked to the Department of Biology
(Comparative Zoology Sector). NESBI started its
activities by offering training in insect taxonomy. In
addition, collection sessions were carried out on campus
grounds and workshops were set up for the assembly
and preparation of entomological material. During
2014 the center held a cycle of lectures and a meeting
with Professor Antônio Fernandes do Nascimento Jr on
teaching entomology. This year, 2015, seminars were held
with various themes related to the study of insects.
Overall Objectives:
To foster studies on classification, systematics,
taxonomy and biological aspects of insects (such as:
morphology, behavior, evolution, ecology, physiology,
among others).
Areas of Expertise:
1. Discussion of relevant texts: Weekly discussions
are held about papers related to systematics, ecology,
taxonomy and insect biology.
2. Scientific dissemination events: Activities were
carried out aiming to coordinate academic
expertise with society through events involving
visits of students from schools of Lavras and
the surrounding region to the Department of
Entomology.
3. Events aimed at academic purposes: Lectures and
scientific meetings were held with the participation of
national and international speakers.
