Background:
The Center for Studies in Food Quality (NUQUALI)
comprises undergraduate students of food engineering
and nutrition and professors from the Department of
Food Science of UFLA. NUQUALI was founded on
August 29, 2006 by Professor Roberta Hilsdorff Piccoli,
Professor Cleube Andrade Boari and 17 students from
the Food Engineering course. Professor Luis Roberto
Batista coordinated the center until 2010. Since 2011
the center has been coordinated by Professor Olga
Lucía Mondragón Bernal. To this day, it is one of the
most sought centers among students not only for the
interesting and comprehensive research subject, but
for the dynamism and commitment of its members.
Each year there is a selection process for the admittance
of new members and renewal of the presidency, as
well as the redistribution of specific management
positions held by students. The main motivation
behind the creation and maintenance of NUQUALI
is the enhancement of knowledge on quality-related
aspects of food production, besides the interest in
providing services to the academic community and
that outside UFLA through extension and research
projects. NUQUALI has been deepening its knowledge
of new and established techniques, using quality tools
and quality support programs mainly geared towards
the production of foods that are safe and meet the
expectations and needs of consumers.
Overall Objectives:
To foster solidarity and interaction among members
through technical-scientific, sociocultural and civic
meetings, courses, seminars, technical visits and other
events that may encourage the spread and debate of
knowledge related to the dairy area.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Companies: Assistance to small and microenterprises
in introducing and/or improving quality tools and
programs in their work environments.
2. Community: Execution of extension projects
to benefit society and foster knowledge exchange,
promoting greater interaction between university and
community.
3. University: Organization of courses and lectures for
members and the entire academic community, always
seeking to enhance knowledge and learn about new
technologies.
