Center for Studies in Freshwater Fish Physiology
- NEPAD
Person in Charge:
Professor Luis David Solis Murgas
lsmurgas@dmv.ufla.br
Institutional Information:
dmv@dmv.ufla.br
Background:
The center stemmed from the creation of the
research group in physiology and pharmacology,
linked to CNPq, in 2000. Due to the high demand of
undergraduate and graduate students interested in
the study and research of freshwater fish physiology,
we decided to create the center. Today it is composed
of undergraduate and graduate students involved
in different lines of research in freshwater fish
physiology, with emphasis in native species for
production and ornamentation, as well as exotic
species such as tilapia.
Overall Objectives:
To generate knowledge in the field of reproductive
physiology and artificial insemination in dogs; to
offer assistance services to dog owners in the areas of
andrology, cytology and artificial insemination.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Fish reproduction: Techniques for induction of fish
reproduction, including sexual reversal in tilapia.
2. Water quality for fish farming: Evaluation of water quality
parameters, including oxygen, pH and ammonia levels.
3. Ornamental fish: Reproduction methods for
ornamental fish.
4. Freezing of fish semen: Biotechnology for cooling
and freezing fish semen.
