Background:
The Federal University of Lavras, in view of the legal
demands provided for in Decree 5626/05 and the
responsibility of federal institutions in disseminating sign
language, not only internally but also in actions in and for
the community, created NELibras. The center arose from
the need to reflect on linguistic accessibility (Brazilian Sign
Language - Libras) within the Federal University of Lavras
through activities organized by the UFLA accessibility
center, as well from as the need to reflect on sign language
in public spaces of the city of Lavras and surrounding
region and support the use and spread of sign language.
Overall Objectives:
To provide extension activities and studies related to
the Brazilian Sign Language and support its use and
dissemination; to ensure that deaf people entering higher
education have the necessary resources to realize their full
potential in the academic environment.
Areas of Expertise:
1. EDUCATION: Extension Program - UFLA Accessible in
Libras: This aims to enable training for linguistic accessibility
at UFLA and the dissemination of sign language.
