Background:
Nepi is a space for the investigation of topics related to
childhood and preschool education, from a historical
and contemporary perspective. It is also a space
of political intervention in coordination with the
Southern Minas Gerais Preschool Education Forum
and the Preschool Education Center of the Federal
University of Lavras, still being developed. The center
comprises the Department of Education professors
Carolina Faria Alvarenga (coordinator), Adriana
Pryscilla Duarte de Melo, Ana Paula Coelho Silva,
Elisangela Brum Cardoso Xavier and Flávia Aparecida
Mendes de Oliveira Cruz, and the Professional Master’s
Degree in Education candidate Kátia Batista Martins.
Overall Objectives:
Research on themes related to childhood and preschool
education, from a historical and contemporary
perspective. Coordination of activities related to
preschool education at UFLA.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Childhood and Preschool Education: Reflection and
research on concepts of childhood, child development
and education.
2. Teacher Training in/for Preschool Education: Initial
and continuous training of professionals to work in
preschool education.
3. Sociology of Childhood: Reflection and research
on childhood and preschool education based on the
concept of the Sociology of Childhood.
4. Public Policies in Preschool Education: Reflection,
research and action in the sphere of public policies for
preschool education.
