Background:

The UFLA Distance Teaching course has been training basic

education teachers since 2012. It is currently responsible

for five hubs: Cambuí, Bambuí, Confins, Jaboticatubas and

Lavras, which are UFLA spaces that exceed the physical

limits of the campus. Therefore, we consider these poles

to be privileged “loci” for the development of cultural

and scientific projects that can contribute significantly to

the academic training of students, as well as of regional

educators. The UAB/UFLA Distance Teaching course

is aware of the importance of the inseparability between

teaching, research and extension, and efforts will be

undertaken to foster the latter principle, extension. Hence

the importance of establishing the Center for Studies in

Distance Teaching (NEPEDI), with the purpose of fostering

extension projects, allied to studies related to teaching and

distance education. These projects will focus on reflecting

the local reality in the light of studies developed in the

course, contributing, in a collaborative way, to problem

solving, exchange of experiences and proposals to intervene

in the reality they experience. Moreover, in both the virtual

spaces and on-site meetings of the course, students have

reflected on the educational reality of each region together

with the course’s professors.

Overall Objectives:

To organize extension activities in the hubs linked to the

Distance Teaching course, contributing to meet the needs

of students and the community of educators; to study

the theoretical framework of distance teaching and its

peculiarities, as well as the specific themes chosen for the

extension activities.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Teacher Training: Provision of specific teacher training

activities according to the need of each region.

2. Distance Education: Study of the different aspects of

distance education at university level.
