Institutional Information:

Background:

The Center for Studies in Ergonomics and Workplace

Safety was created on September 17, 2014 at a

meeting chaired by Professor Ednilton Tavares de

Andrade. Since then, NUSEG has been working

with the academic community, organizing lectures

and improving the work environment. The idea for

the group resulted from a conversation between a

student and a professor about the precarious health

and safety of workers in general. Concerned about

this situation, they decided to create a group to study

and understand the potential causes of absenteeism

(absence from work) and work accidents. Thus

was created the Center for Studies in Ergonomics

and Workplace Safety (NUSEG). Comprising

professionals of several areas of knowledge, such as

physical educators, physiotherapists, engineers and

technicians in occupational safety, the center aims

to find solutions to minimize or even eliminate the

possible causes of work-related diseases and accidents,

besides contributing to scientific production.

Overall Objectives:

To work with the academic community and the

community of Lavras by fostering safer work

environments with less discomfort at the end of the

day, due to ergonomic problems, and helping to

reduce accident rates.

Areas of Expertise:

1. Ergonomics: Advice on posture and workplace

exercises and adaptation of the work environment.

2. Occupational Safety: Risk mapping, advice on

handling equipment and safe workplace procedures.

3. Occupational Safety: Ways to eliminate and/or

minimize accidents and injuries to workers’ health,

improving their quality of life.
