Background:
The Center for Studies in Environmental Solutions -
NESAMB, based at the Federal University of Lavras, is
a non-partisan, non-profit organization of perpetual
existence founded by students in environmental and
hygiene engineering at the institution in 2012. It focuses
on studies and research in areas related to the solution
of environmental problems. In addition, the center
organizes courses, events, programs and projects and
other extension activities. The methodologies adopted
in its activities include readings and debates of papers,
presentations and lectures with professors, professionals
and other people interested in environmental matters.
Besides research, also notable are the center’s extension
programs and projects, such as Awareness and
Implementation of Waste Recycling and Environmental
Education in Public Schools, in the city of Lavras. Among
events, the Environmental and Hygiene Engineering
Meeting - EEAMB affords future professionals in
the environmental field the opportunity to debate
prospects. The last edition (2014), which discussed the
theme “Environmental Impact of Large Enterprises,”
received renowned names and professionals such as
representatives of Itaipu Binacional and the Brazilian
Association of Nuclear Energy, besides offering technical
visits and mini-courses.
Overall Objectives:
To foster study and research in areas related to
solving environmental problems and to contribute to
the professional training of members by organizing
courses, events, projects, programs and other extension
activities for constant learning and improvement in
environmental studies.
Areas of Expertise:
1. Solid Waste: Solid waste planning and management.
2. Water resources: Rational use of rivers, reservoirs
and groundwater, controlling the quality and quantity
of water consumed.
3. Environmental Education: Development of social
values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and skills geared
towards environmental conservation.
