impresie. Mai degrabæ, filmærile implicate canalizeazæ interpretarea într-o altæ direcflie,
încercînd sæ indice cum a modelat tehnologia media receptarea directæ a istoriei
øi cum a fost resimflitæ aceastæ interpelare vizualæ. Astfel, filmul propune o strategie
the artistic thwart of media manipulation, nor the technical demystification
of media methods of emotional operations – at least, they
are not exclusively so. Observed, noted, even integrated, the psychological
experiences, in the countless events in which, in those
moments, they have manifested, do not play a starring role in film,
although the compact presence of emotional testing scenes can
leave that impression. Rather, those shootings channel interpretation
in another direction, trying to show how media technology has
shaped the direct reception of history and how this visual query was
felt. Thus, the film offers a visual strategy to develop the action of
the tele-visual media on the manner in which the subject gets to fabric
itself in a revolutionary circumstance: a historically determined,
but politically indeterminate one. But what are its components, how
does it reel off, and what does it’s said here?
The artist is working with the decontextualisation of the images
extracted from a precise context, but it is not in a documentary
recontextualization of the audio-visual sources that the singularity
of his filmic work consists. Of course, one could talk about beauty,
about how the film cuts into a shapeless documentary material to
incorporate it, wonderfully, in a new artistic form: insufficiently
noticed, this aspect is difficult to display it. So let us return to the
filmic strategy, without narrating anything, without attempting to
decipher by description. The working method consists in using focuses,
switches and images of images. The objective of the focused
images, especially those taken from live footage, is highlighting the
moment when the filmed subject identifies the new existential situation
in which he was engaged and his attempt to understand it correctly.
Consider only the images with Ceauøescu being booed;
or those of the first announcement on TV by Mircea Dinescu; or those
of the enforcement of Constantin Dæscælescu to communicate the
resignation of the communist government; or those of the introduction
of Nicu Ceauøescu into the television studio – all these reveal
not only the crisis behavior of some characters, but also the state of
historical suspension in which they are all caught. If focusing leaves
the impression of stopping time, the ceaseless switches are introduced
in the film to emphasize the temporality of the revolution:
looking at some alternations of sequences, for example those in
which Dumitru Mazilu addresses the crowd in front of the Central
Committee, talking about renaming the country, on the one hand,
and those in which Ion Iliescu discusses, with a few persons, about
naming a revolutionary central governing structure, on the other
hand, the film reveals not so much one’s idealism as opposed to the
pragmatism of the other, but the idea that events did not simply
occurred, but they were intervened upon politically. However, these
are secondary aspects, acting as a background in which Ujicæ adds
his artistic project, which is filming indirectly in order to generate an
image of images. Thus can be interpreted the takings of images of
images, namely the images in which the camera discovers the place
where the revolution produces its self-representation: the television,
the TV set. When, on 22 December 1989, after the dictator fleeing,
the Romanian Television leaders are asked to issue a notice to the
army saying that the army is with the people, or when, the same
