Rair#3: În cadrul expozifliei Guesthouse [Casa de oaspefli] au fost expuse lucrærile unor artiøti care în ultimii<br />

zece ani au participat la numeroasele programe destinate artiøtilor-în-rezidenflæ de la Rotterdam. Printre<br />

numeroøii artiøti s-au numærat Diego Bruno, Nathan Redwood, Hadassah Emmerich, Nicolas Unger øi<br />

Marit Shalem. Curatorul Leo Delfgaauw øi Maaike Gottschal, coordonator al programului de rezidenflæ,<br />

au invitat, de asemenea, un restaurant open-source pentru a participa la expoziflie (http://www.rair.nl/<br />

Juha van’t Zelfde ¬ Aøadar, ce este Restaurantul Instructables?<br />

Arne Hendriks √ Este primul restaurant open-source din lume. Tot ce fline de<br />

el vine cu instrucfliuni complete cu privire la cum sæ te descurci singur. A început ca<br />

o investigaflie personalæ a culturii open-source øi a modului în care o structuræ de cunoøtinfle<br />

deschisæ ar putea funcfliona într-o situaflie economicæ concretæ. În cele din<br />

urmæ, aceastæ situaflie a devenit un restaurant. Tot ce se gæseøte în meniu, precum øi<br />

interiorul, se bazeazæ pe reflete alimentare øi instrucfliuni de design disponibile în mod<br />

gratuit, pe care le gæsim online øi le punem în practicæ. Nu creæm nimic original, ci<br />

doar ne însuøim. Internetul confline o asemenea cantitate de cunoøtinfle, încît pare inutil<br />

sæ adaugi øi mai mult conflinut. Ce conteazæ e sæ fii atent la ce se aflæ deja acolo. Am<br />

suflat praful virtual de pe niøte informaflii care altfel sînt probabil foarte rar folosite.<br />

¬ Faci ca internetul sæ paræ ceva învechit. Majoritatea n-ar fi de acord.<br />

√ Nu atît internetul, cît ideea cæ toate aceste informaflii pur øi simplu stau acolo.<br />

Uneori, acesta pare o acumulare inutilæ. Inflaflia informaflionalæ devalorizeazæ<br />

aprecierea, sau ceva de genul æsta. Poate e mai mult un ræspuns emoflional decît<br />

ceva realist, dar pentru mine acest „sentiment“ e unul dintre motivele pentru care<br />

am înfiinflat restaurantul. Am simflit cæ trebuie sæ intru literalmente în acest noian øi<br />

sæ aduc o parte din el în realitatea mea personalæ.<br />

¬ Deci cum ai legat o sursæ de informaflii atît de vastæ øi nelimitatæ de nevoia ta<br />

personalæ?<br />

√ Ne-am limitat cæutarea la cea mai mare platformæ D.I.Y. [do-it-yourself: fæ-tuînsufli]<br />

din lume, instructables.com. Are 2 milioane de membri care încarcæ informaflii<br />

despre cum pofli face aproape orice îfli trece prin minte. Cuptoare de pizza, præjituri<br />

de brînzæ cu cæpøuni, læmpi de sticlæ din sæpun, un cappuccino perfect. Orice<br />

doreøti e acolo, aøteptînd sæ-l aducæ cineva la viaflæ. Iar prin asta, totul devine personal.<br />

¬ Cultura D.I.Y. este foarte popularæ în zilele noastre.<br />

√ E foarte popularæ. Cultura Do-It-Yourself a explodat în ultimii ani. Paradoxal,<br />

în mare mæsuræ, popularitatea ei n-are nicio legæturæ cu faptul de a face tu însufli ceva,<br />

ci cu acelaøi consum nebunesc de informaflii cu care ne-am obiønuit cu toflii. 99%<br />

dintre vizitatorii platformelor D.I.Y. online vin acolo doar ca sæ se distreze.<br />

Clic. Clic. Clic.<br />

¬ Nu e nimic în neregulæ cu distracflia.<br />

√ Nu, ai dreptate, desigur, dar cumva mæ enerveazæ. Asta submineazæ promisiunea<br />

culturii D.I.Y. ca miøcare a celor care doresc sæ recapete controlul asupra<br />

Rair#3: Guesthouse exhibited work of artists who over the past ten<br />

Juha Van’t Zelfde ¬ So what is the Instructables Restaurant?<br />

Arne Hendriks √ It’s the first open-source restaurant in the world.<br />

Everything in it comes with full instructions how to make it yourself.<br />

It started as a personal investigation of open-source culture, and<br />

how an open knowledge structure could work in a practical economic<br />

situation. In the end this situation became a restaurant. Everything<br />

on the menu, as well as the interior, is based on openly available<br />

food recipes and design instructions we find online and make.<br />

We don’t create anything original, we just appropriate. Internet contains<br />

such an mountain of knowledge that it seems unnecessary to<br />

add more content to it. What is more important is to pay attention<br />

to what is already there. We blow away the virtual dust on information<br />

that is otherwise probably rarely activated.<br />

¬ You make the Internet sound old-fashioned. That’s not what most<br />

would call it.<br />

√ It’s not so much the Internet but the <strong>idea</strong> of all this information<br />

just sitting there. It sometimes feels like such a pointless accumulation.<br />

Information inflation deflates appreciation, or something like<br />

that. Perhaps it is more an emotional response than something realistic<br />

but for me this ’feeling’ is one of the reasons to start the restaurant.<br />

I felt I needed to physically enter the cloud and pull some of it<br />

back into my personal reality.<br />

¬ So how did you connect such a vast and limitless source of information<br />

to this personal need?<br />

√ We limited our search to the largest D.I.Y. platform in the world,<br />

instructables.com. It has 2 million members who upload information<br />

on how to make almost anything you can imagine. Pizza ovens,<br />

strawberry cheesecakes, soap bottle lamps, the perfect cappuccino.<br />

You name it, it’s there, waiting for someone to bring it to life.<br />

And in doing so it becomes personal.<br />

¬ D.I.Y. is very popular these days.<br />

√ Very popular. The Do-It-Yourself culture has boomed over the<br />

last years. Paradoxically most of why it is so popular has nothing to<br />

do with doing-it-yourself and everything to do with the same mindless<br />

consumption of information we’ve all grown accustomed to.<br />

99% of the visitors to all online D.I.Y. platforms just come there to be<br />

entertained. Click. Click. Click.<br />

¬ Nothing wrong with being entertained.<br />
