Where health services are present, there are many factors—social, cultural, <strong>and</strong> economic—<br />
that cause women not to use the services, particularly when the health concern is related to sexual or<br />
reproductive matters. Information on such factors is particularly important in underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong><br />
addressing the barriers women face in seeking care during pregnancy <strong>and</strong> at the time <strong>of</strong> delivery. In<br />
the <strong>2009</strong>-<strong>10</strong> TLDHS, women were asked whether each <strong>of</strong> the following factors would be a big<br />
problem or not a big problem in seeking health care for themselves: getting permission to go for<br />
treatment, getting money for treatment, distance to a health facility, having to take transportation, not<br />
wanting to go alone to the health facility, concern that there may not be a female provider, concern<br />
that there may be no health provider, <strong>and</strong> concern that there may be no drugs available. The results are<br />
shown in Table <strong>10</strong>.14.<br />
