Domestic violence is not limited to physical <strong>and</strong> sexual violence. Verbal abuse, restrictions on<br />

freedom <strong>of</strong> movement, <strong>and</strong> withholding funds can also constitute violent behavior. This section <strong>of</strong> the<br />

chapter examines women’s experiences <strong>of</strong> marital control. Table 16.7 shows the percentage <strong>of</strong><br />

ever-married women whose husb<strong>and</strong>s have exhibited various types <strong>of</strong> behaviors aimed at controlling<br />

their wife/partner.<br />
