Among male cigarette smokers, two-fifths smoked 10 or more cigarettes, one-fourth smoked
3 to 5 cigarettes, one-fifth smoked 6 to 9 cigarettes, and one-eighth smoked 1 to 2 cigarettes in the 24
hours prior to the survey. Among women who smoked, half smoked just 1 to 2 cigarettes, one-fourth
smoked 3 to 5 cigarettes, and one in ten smoked either 6 to 9 or 10 or more cigarettes in the past 24
hours.
