1 The repetition rate is the percentage <strong>of</strong> students in a given grade in the previous<br />

school year who are repeating that grade in the current school year.<br />

2 The dropout rate is the percentage <strong>of</strong> students in a given grade in the previous<br />

school year who no longer attend school.<br />

For both sexes the repetition rate is higher in grade 1 than in grades 2 through 6. In grade 1<br />

the repetition rate is 2 percent for males, compared with 1 percent for females, but in grade 2 the<br />

repetition rate for females is slightly higher than that for males. There are small variations by urbanrural<br />

residence in almost all grades, except in grade 5 where urban residents have a higher repetition<br />
