Among the various physical acts <strong>of</strong> violence experienced by women in the past 12 months,<br />

slapping was the most commonly reported act, experienced by 28 percent <strong>of</strong> women. Fourteen percent<br />

<strong>of</strong> women were pushed, shaken, or had something thrown at them by their husb<strong>and</strong> or partner,<br />

7 percent had their arms twisted or hair pulled by their husb<strong>and</strong> or partner, <strong>and</strong> 7 percent were kicked,<br />

dragged, or beaten up. Two percent <strong>of</strong> women were forced to have sex by their husb<strong>and</strong>/partner when<br />

they did not want to (Figure 16.1).<br />
