The relationship between occupation <strong>and</strong> age is mixed. One notable finding is the relatively<br />
higher percentages <strong>of</strong> women age 25-34 employed in sales <strong>and</strong> services <strong>and</strong> engaged in pr<strong>of</strong>essional,<br />
technical, <strong>and</strong> managerial occupations.<br />
Residence has a significant effect on the type <strong>of</strong> occupation. As expected, a high proportion <strong>of</strong><br />
respondents in rural areas—seven in ten employed women, <strong>and</strong> eight in ten employed men—are<br />
engaged in agricultural work. Urban women are most likely to be engaged in sales <strong>and</strong> services<br />
compared with other occupations. Women <strong>and</strong> men in Dili are much more likely to be engaged in<br />
sales <strong>and</strong> services <strong>and</strong> in pr<strong>of</strong>essional, technical, <strong>and</strong> managerial occupations, <strong>and</strong> are least likely to be<br />
engaged in agriculture. On the other h<strong>and</strong>, women <strong>and</strong> men in Ermera are most likely to be engaged in<br />
agriculture <strong>and</strong> least likely to be engaged in sales <strong>and</strong> services.
