shall rest with the Division of Administration.<br />

10. The responsibility for the processing of records and personal<br />

data of the instructional assistant shall rest with the Division<br />

of Administration.<br />

11. The responsibility for the processing of certification for the<br />

instructional assistant shall rest with the Division of Human<br />

Resources.<br />

12. Following the determination of the assignment and general<br />

job description of an instructional assistant and subject to<br />

supervision by the teacher's immediate administrative office, a<br />

teacher to whom an instructional assistantisassignedshall<br />

make all final determinations of the dutiestobeassignedto<br />

such aide.<br />

Job Description<br />

1. The function of the instructional assistant is to assist teachers<br />

in instructional activities and non-instructional duties.<br />

2. The instructional assistant shall work under the supervision<br />

of the building principal and under the direction of the classroom<br />

teacher or librarian to whom assigned.<br />

3. The duties of an instructional assistant need not be performed<br />

in the physical presence of the teacher to whom<br />

assigned, but theactivityofaninstructional assistant shall at<br />

times be under the direction of the teacher to whom<br />

assigned.<br />

Qualifications<br />

1. Proper qualifications and formal education to perform the tasks<br />

assigned.<br />

2. The ability to exercise patience and relate well to all children.<br />

3. A sincere interest in and respect for all people.<br />

4. Emotional and social stability.<br />

5. Adequate language competency.<br />

6. Good physical and mental health. Assistants should meet the<br />

same health requirements as applied to other school employees.<br />

7. High moral integrity.<br />

8. Show promise of being able to profit from inservice training and<br />

be willing to participate in such training.<br />

9. A disposition toward accepting the kinds of work most needed.<br />

Inservice Training<br />

To accommodate the successful employment of instructional<br />

assistants, inservice training will be given in the following areas:<br />

A. System-wide orientation<br />

1. Responsibilities<br />

2. Benefits<br />

3. Legal considerations<br />

4. <strong>Relations</strong>hips with staff members, pupils and the public.<br />

5. Elements of child and adolescent psychology.<br />

6. Methods of control and supervision.<br />

7. Theories of learning.<br />

B. School-wide orientation<br />

1. Use of the playground and playground equipment, and<br />

rules for playground games.<br />

2. Directions for entering and exiting the building.<br />

3. First-aid, caring for sick children, and helping with<br />
