or school year, or for an entire school year, and may be<br />
renewed upon written request. A written request for<br />
reinstatementshall be filed with the Superintendent at<br />
least thirty (30) days prior to the return to duty of the<br />
teacher.<br />
702.11 Religious Leave<br />
Ateacher may be absent, with pay, on a day identified by<br />
adulyconstitutedreligious body as a religious holiday,<br />
provided the duly constituted religious body has established<br />
that in order to properly observe such religious<br />
holiday no work should be performed on such day and<br />
provided the employee is an active member of such religious<br />
body. Requests for such absence shall be made of<br />
theHuman Resources Department at least five (5)<br />
school days prior to the holiday. Such absence shall not<br />
exceed three (3) days during the school year, which days<br />
shall not be deducted from any other leave.<br />
702.12 Personal Leave<br />
A. Each teacher shall be credited with two (2) personal<br />
leave days each school year and may use personal<br />
leave days for absence due to personal reasons.<br />
Personal leave days shall not be deducted from sick<br />
leave, and unused personal leave days shall be cumulative<br />
from year to year. If possible, a teacher will give<br />
his/her principal or immediate supervisor twentyfour<br />
(24) hours advance notice of his/her intention<br />
to take such leave. When a staff member is absent for<br />
personal reasons, a report of such absence, signed by<br />
theteacher, shall be filed with the principal or immediate<br />
supervisor within three (3) days following the<br />
last day of such absence or three (3) days after the<br />
close of a school year, whichever occurs first. Such<br />
report shall contain certification by the teacher that<br />
his/her absence was not for one of the reasons proscribed<br />
below. The filing of a false statement by a<br />
teacher shall be considered by the <strong>Board</strong> as grounds<br />
for disciplinary action in such form and manner as<br />
the <strong>Board</strong> may deem advisable. The following do not<br />
constitute valid reasons for the use of personal leave:<br />
1. Gainful employment or other income-producing<br />
activity;<br />
2. Any activity in connection with a strike, “study<br />
day,” “professional holiday,” or any other work<br />
stoppage or any concerted action related to such<br />
activities.<br />
B. For purposes of Section 702.12(A), a school year is<br />
from September 1 to the following August 31.<br />
Teachers employed after January 1 in a given school<br />
year shall be credited with one (1) day of personal<br />
