504.02 The present Test Selection Committee will be continued.<br />
However, the Association will have the right to<br />
appointfifty (50) percent of the representatives to the<br />
committee.<br />
504.03 All committees included in this article, including<br />
textbook selection committees, shall adhere to the provisions<br />
of the article entitled “Committee Procedures.”<br />
Article 505<br />
Integrated Textbooks<br />
In conformance with previous policy statements made by<br />
the Columbus <strong>Board</strong> of Education, a concerted effort will<br />
continue to be made in the selection process to provide textbooks<br />
and other teaching materials which avoid male and<br />
female role stereotyping, which reflect an integrated society<br />
and which portray both in printed text and illustrations the<br />
contributions made to American society by all elements of<br />
the society.<br />
Article 506<br />
Committee Procedures<br />
506.01 Committees formed or continued asaresultofthis<br />
<strong>Agreement</strong> shall function in a democratic fashion with<br />
chairpersons elected by the committee members.<br />
506.02 Thereshall be no ex-officio members. The times,<br />
places, agenda and all other procedural or substantive<br />
decisions or recommendations of these committees shall<br />
be made by vote of the members.<br />
506.03 Such committees may call upon the Association or<br />
the <strong>Board</strong> for consultants as needed, but the composition<br />
of the committees may not be changed without mutual<br />
consent of the Association and the <strong>Board</strong>.<br />
506.04 The term “joint committee” as used in this<br />
<strong>Agreement</strong> shall mean, unless it is otherwise stipulated, a<br />
committee composed of equal numbers of <strong>Board</strong>appointed<br />
and Association-appointed members. Such<br />
committees shall adhere to the procedures set forth in<br />
Sections 506.01, 506.02, and 506.03.<br />
Article 507<br />
Professional Development<br />
507.01 The parties believe that professional development is<br />
an ongoing process that promotes and supports both<br />
professional and personal growth for all teachers and is<br />
aimed at increasing student progress/growth. The parties<br />
agree to examine strategies and mechanisms that will<br />
increase training time of teachers other than the workdays<br />
set forth in Section 1401.03. Strategies and mechanismsshall<br />
include, but not limited to, courses offered by<br />
the District and CEA, customized courses developed in<br />
56
