Heffner DéziHeffner-Reiner DéziBorn in Budapest on 10.1.1927Member of “Dror Habonim”At the age of twelve Dézi was a member of “Maccabi Hatzair” and laterjoined the “Habonim” movement. She assisted refugees from Poland whofound a hiding place in her family house on 45, Hársfa Street in Budapestbefore moving to another place or leaving for Romania. Dézi obtaineddocuments from the offices of the Hungarian Population Registry. Shewas sent to the Gestapo headquarters in Buda in order to help theprisoners there. Dézi was also sent to country towns in order to findhiding places in case there was a need for them. She left Hungary on thetrain of the Relief and <strong>Rescue</strong> Committee to Bergen-Belsen and fromthere to Switzerland.Dézi made aliya and she is a member of Kibbutz Givat Brenner.Heffner Imre 'Hefi'Born in Újpest in 1924Fell in the War of IndependenceMember of “Dror Habonim”Imre joined the movement in 1938. As refugees arrived from Poland andSlovakia, he gave them assistance. After the German invasion ofHungary on 19.3.1944, Imre went underground with the other membersof the movement who had not been enlisted in forced labor units. Imretraveled to the Miskolc ghetto, handed out forged documents tocomrades whom he smuggled into Budapest. In July 1944, he crossedthe border into Romania within the framework of the tiyul and in August ofthe same year, he arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine). Imre was one of thefounders of Kibbutz Ein Zeitim and in 1947 he moved to Kvutzat Kinneret.He fought in the War of Independence and was killed in the battle for theTzemah police station.Herbst Judith 'Juca'Weisz JuditBorn in Kökényes (Ternove) on 26.12.1912Died on 8.12.1974 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”Judith was active in the movement and the Zionist underground inHungary during World War II. She was caught by the Hungarian fascistsand the Gestapo, brutally tortured but did not break and did not reveal<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 131
