Rosenzweig Haim ‘Imka’Born in Budapest in 1926Died in AustraliaMember of “Hanoar Hatzioni”Haim’s father was Jewish and his mother was Christian. He joined“Hanoar Hatzioni” at an early age. He read many books about Judaismand Zionism. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Haimequipped himself with forged documents and became an undergroundactivist. Haim traveled to country towns to distributed documents andmoney to the members of his movement so that they could escape fromthe camps and ghettos. He operated in a daring and determined way.After the war Haim emigrated to Australia.Roth MiriamFeldman MirjamBorn in Kassa (Košice) on 30.6.1920Member of “Bnei Akiva”Miriam joined the movement at the age of twelve. In 1939, when the areawas annexed to Hungary, she was forced to escape because she waswanted by the police for her Zionist activities. Miriam arrived in Prešovand Bratislava in Slovakia where she worked for the national leadershipof “Bnei Akiva”. When it became known that Jewish girls risked beingdeported from Slovakia (1942), Miriam fled to Hungary and arrived inBudapest. She joined the “Bnei Akiva” national leadership and took partin the underground activities which included the forging and distributing offorged documents, finding hiding places for the refugees, food andequipment for those in hiding and smuggling Jews over the Romanianborder and from there to Eretz Israel (Palestine). Miriam herself failed inher attempt to cross the border and she joined the train of the Relief and<strong>Rescue</strong> Committee whose destination was Switzerland. After she arrivedin Switzerland Miriam agreed to the movement’s request that she remainin Europe for some time as an educator for orphans who were Holocaustsurvivors.In 1945 Miriam made aliya with a group of children. She worked as anurse in the agricultural school “Mikveh Israel”.
