Arbel Yitzhak 'Bukszi'Baumöhl István 'Bukszi'Born in Csajág on 9.9.1925Member of “Hanoar Hatzioni”In May 1944 Yitzhak was enlisted in a forced labor unit. In September theunit was transferred to Budapest and he contacted members of themovement who were underground activists.Yitzhak escaped from the labor unit and arrived at the “Glass House” onVadász Street. He joined a unit called “Personal Sacrifice” under theleadership of Alexander Nathan. This unit’s role was to protect the housefrom the Arrow Cross hooligans. Each member of the unit had his ownpersonal firearm. In the end though there was no need for any armedconfrontation. Within the framework of the movement Yitzhak helpedorganize groups of Jewish orphaned children and took care of them.Even after the liberation in January 1945 Yitzhak continued to work withthe children until 1948 and brought them to Israel. He served as thegeneral secretary of the movement.Yitzhak made aliya within the framework of a group of volunteers in theHaganah. He is a member of Kibbutz Cabri.Arieli ZehavaWertheimer ÁgnesBorn in Pozsony (Bratislava) on 19.12.1925Member of “Beitar”Zehava joined the “Beitar” movement in Nitra in 1941 after having beenexpelled from Bratislava. In 1942 she was faced with deportation toAuschwitz but Count Eszterházy, the representative of the Hungarianminority in the Slovak Parliament and a friend of the family, helped her tohide for months and later smuggled her into Budapest.After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Zehava worked withthe underground mainly distributing forged documents and makingcontact with the underground activists.In June 1944 she travelled to Kassa to give forged documents tocomrades. In Budapest Zehava was caught twice by the Germans,tortured by the Gestapo but managed to escape. She stayed in hidingplaces and in bunkers on Hungary Boulevard and in the BudapestInstitute of Technology where there was a one and a half meter highbunker between the ceiling of the second storey and the floor of the thirdstorey.<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 41
