Tzvi also escorted the ‘Rudi Bácsi’ carts.While in hiding on Wekerle Sándor Street, he forged seals. After theliberation he took part in the organization of children’s houses. Tzvi wassent to Romania in order to set up transit stations for olim. <strong>For</strong> two and ahalf years he worked in Transylvania as the movement’s secretary. InJuly 1948 Tzvi arrived in Israel, joined the garin in Kibbutz Dan and later,in the framework of hashlama, he moved to Kibbutz Megiddo.Tzvi was a member of Kibbutz Usha.Steiner Yitzhak ‘Itzki’Steiner LászlóBorn in Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky) in 1925Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”Died on 4.4.2006 in IsraelYitzhak joined the movement at the age of thirteen. After the Germaninvaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, he was enlisted in forced labor unit.Thanks to forged documents from the movement he managed to escape.Miraculously he was not caught and reached Budapest. Yitzhak was sentby the movement to a bunker in a farm courtyard close to Budapest andlater arrived in the “Glass House” on 29, Vadász Street where he wasliberated in January 1945. After the liberation Yitzhak collected Jewishorphans. He made aliya in June 1949. He was a member of KfarHahoresh. Nowadays he lives in the Protea pensioner’s village.Steinmetz ShmuelBorn in Kökényes (Ternove) on 15.10.1923Died on 18.9.1999 in IsraelMember of “Dror Habonim”<strong>For</strong>eseeing the fate of the Jews Shmuel and his friends prepared twobunkers in Máramaros County even before the Germans invadedHungary on 19.3.1944. Shmuel was enlisted in a forced labor unit. Hewas liberated by the partisans in Yugoslavia and remained with themuntil the end of the war. After the liberation he was a Hebrew andgeography teacher of a group of children staying in Germany on theirway to Eretz Israel (Palestine). Shmuel made aliya on the “Exodus”ship and was detained in Cyprus. On 1.5.1948 he arrived in EretzIsrael (Palestine) and joined Kibbutz Afek.
