Schweitzer ShoshannaSchweitzer OszkárnéBerger Rózsi (Wife of Schweitzer Oszkár)Born in 1902Died on 1978 in IsraelMember of "Mizrahi"When Shoshanna was 6 years old her family moved to Budapest. Shewas active in "Mizrahi" from an early age. Shoshanna was among theprincipal assistants to refugees arriving to Budapest from Poland. Herhouse was open to them and she got the nickname of ‘the good heart’.Endangering her own life, Shoshanna worked hard for the refugees in theHungarian government offices. After the liberation (1945) she was theleader of the “Mizrahi” women and the chairwoman at the first nationalcongress in 1947.In 1948 Shoshanna made aliya and continued with her public work. Herson, Yitzhak, fell in the Negev during the War of Independence. Hersecond son, Avraham, was an editor for the “Ha’aretz” newspaper untilhis death.Seidel HerrmanSeidenfeld Herrman Tzvi 'Sidi'Born on 2.7.1922 in Ungvár (Uzhorod)Member of “Bnei Akiva”In his young days, Herrman worked in his family's business in Ungvár. In1943 moved to Budapest, and in 1944, instead of joining to a forced laborunit he hid, thanks to Aryan documents.Member of Bnei Akiba in his hometown as of the age of 15, he continuedin Budapest his active involvement in the movement at a time when theauthorities forbade all Zionist activities. After the German occupation ofHungary, "Sidi" distributed forged documents among his comrades. Whileholding unfilled forms of such documents, he was captured and taken tothe "Arrow Cross" headquarters. After being tortured, he was handedover to the Germans; being in severe condition he was hospitalized in theJewish hospital. Following his release from the hospital by his comrades,"Sidi" was liberated in the "Glass House" on 18.1.1945. After the war hewas active in restoring the Bne Akiba movement, and made aliya in 1946.In 1956 "Sidi" joined his brother and his business in the United States. Shaanan HaimStern HeniBorn in Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky) in 1922Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”Haim took part in his movement’s hahshara. In September 1943 he wasenlisted in a forced labor unit, ran away and arrived in the movement’sbunker in Hüvösvölgy, in the hilly part of Budapest. Haim was caught dueto an informer, incarcerated in the military prison on Margit Boulevard,interrogated and tortured. He was liberated on 25.12.1944 in a daringoperation of the Zionist underground and arrived at the branch of theSwiss consulate on Wekerle Street and from there he moved to VadászStreet. Haim made aliya. He is a member of Kfar Hahoresh.Shahar LeaWeisz LyaBorn on 28.6.1928 in Hollósarka (Capu Corbulum)Died on 6.3.2007 in IsraelMember of “Dror Habonim”Lea prepared documents for the refugees who arrived in her town. Asshe spoke Romanian, she helped the Jews in the framework of the tiyul.Lea herself crossed the border and arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine).She is a member of Kibbutz Dovrat.Brothers for Resistance and Rescue 219
