On January 4th at 2 o'clock aftermidnight he suddenly appeared at the house and woke Salamon.“I think I have found Arthur’s traces” he said. Salamon sat down on his bed. “Arthur was taken tothe City Headquarters on Városházi Street”. Salamon’s face turned pale. That place had a badreputation and there were no people there that could be bribed.“I have already made contact with them through the Swiss. The messenger boy tried to take advantage of the opportunity and run into thehouse but the Arrow Cross man was faster: he drew his gun and shot at the boy who fell to theground in a pool of blood. Simha Hunwald got out of the car.“I am Hans Kűhne, an official of the consulate. I demand that I be allowed to take the woundedman to the hospital!” he said determinedly to the Arrow Cross man and his friends. There was silence for a moment as if the hoodlums were backing down. Then the fascist officer approached Hunwald, put his gun to his chest and ordered him to get intothe consulate car. On the backseat there was a bag with five hundred forged documents. On January 10th, a policeman appeared at the “Glass House” and delivered a hand written letter toSalamon. “I am in the cellar of the Police Headquarters, do whatever it takes to set me free. I wastortured but did not reveal anything. Have you received any sign of Arthur? I will try to hold on.Simha.”The policeman said he was late delivering the letter because he was afraid of going out on thestreets due to the bombardments.Simha Hunwald was shot dead on January 8th and buried in a mass grave.Arthur Weisz was murdered in unknown circumstances.Brothers for Resistance and Rescue 29
