there she was deported to Auschwitz. Anna saw her husband for the lasttime on the ramp at Auschwitz. Anna was liberated by the Americans andreturned to Budapest. She integrated the movement’s activities andmainly took care of teenagers, orphaned children and families in need ofhelp. In 1946, within the framework of Aliya Bet, she got on her way toEretz Israel (Palestine) but the ship “Knesset Israel”, that had 4,000immigrants on board, was intercepted by the British and all thepassengers were deported to Cyprus. They arrived in Eretz Israel(Palestine) only a year later.In Eretz Israel Anna married her second husband, Dov and lived onKibbutz Ga’aton for about six years. Anna is a social worker, the motherof two and has two grandchildren. While she lived in adormitory operated by the Orthodox Jewish community f or young femaleemployees, Edna got acquainted with members of "Dror Habonim". Afterthe "Arrow Cross" coup d'état (15.10.1944), Asher Arany delivered Aryanpapers to the girls in the dormitory. Edna joined her comrades in a bunkeron Hungaria Boulevard, but the bunker was discovered and they were alltaken to the central military prison on Margit Boulevard, where they weretortured. Members of the underground rescued them in a daringoperation. On 18.1.1945 she was liberated in the "Glass House". In 1946she made aliya illegally. Edna lived for a while in a kibbutz.
