Salomon HavaBarmat ÉvaBorn in Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky) on 3.11.1926Died on 4.3.2007 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”Hava came from a religious Jewish family. At the age of ten, following hersisters’ steps, she joined the “Hashomer Hatzair” movement. After theGermans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, in order to escape to Budapestshe received forged documents from Nesher Adler, who was sent to herby the movement. She was arrested at the railway station by a localpoliceman who knew her and allowed her to get on the train. In Budapestshe found work with a family who supported the fascist Arrow CrossParty. Hava met her comrades from the movement in public gardens.She was engaged in the distribution of forged documents and foodcoupons. At the end of December 1944 she stayed in an apartment inKøbánya, a Budapest suburb. <strong>David</strong> <strong>Gur</strong> brought her six suitcasescontaining equipment for the forging of documents and forgeddocuments. Hava hid them under her bed.Hava made aliya after the liberation and joined Kibbutz Ein Dor.Salomon Menahem MendelSalamon MihályBorn in Zilah (Zalåu) in 1897Died in 1991 in IsraelMember of "Mizrahi"Menahem was a prominent figure in "Mizrahi", held senior positions in thecentral institutions of the movement and represented it in various forums.In 1941 he was elected as the chairman of the Eretz-Israel Office and in1943 he held the position of chairman of the "Mizrahi" executivecommittee. During the Holocaust Menahem took part in rescue activitiesand was among the leaders of the “Glass House” on 29, Vadász Street.After the liberation Menahem was elected as president of the HungarianZionist Association and participated in the 22nd Zionist Congress inBasel.In 1948 he made aliya and continued with his public work. Menahem wasamong his movement’s candidates for the Knesset. He wrote a book: “IWas a Christian in Europe” (Keresztény voltam Európában, Tel-Aviv,1955).Menahem was one of the editors of the Új Kelet daily paper in Tel-Aviv.<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 211
