Yehuda was caught inNovember 1944 while trying to rescue Jews from a “transport” at therailway station in Újpest, a suburb of Budapest. He was tortured withelectric shocks but after a few days he managed to escape and resumedhis activities with the underground until the city was liberated by the RedArmy in January 1945.Yehuda made aliya at the end of 1945 and joined Kibbutz Yehiam wherehe stayed until 1957. He was enlisted in aforced labor unit but managed to escape. Joseph joined the undergroundand was sent to work in the children’s house on 90, Dob Street whichwas under the protection of the International Red Cross in Budapest.After the liberation Joseph was in charge, in Germany, of a group ofabout 200 children who were going to make aliya. He himself made aliyain 1947. Joseph is a member of Kibbutz Ga’aton. <strong>For</strong> many years he wasa teacher. He is now in charge of the kibbutz archives.
