Schlesinger Yaffe GabrielBorn in 1896Died in 1979 in IsraelMember of "Mizrahi"In 1919 Yaffe founded the “Young Mizrahi” in Hungary and from 1920 to1922 he was its chairman. In 1943 he was vice-chairman of the KerenKayemet LeIsrael. He held the position of finance comptroller for theRelief and <strong>Rescue</strong> Committee and was a member of the Eretz-IsraelCommittee (Pal-Amt) that helped Jewish refugees arriving in Hungary.Yaffe left Hungary in June 1944 on the train of the Relief and <strong>Rescue</strong>Committee and made aliya in 1945 with his wife, Ziszl, and their daughterTova. In 1952 Yaffe was the chief secretary of the rabbinical tribunal inTel-Aviv/Jaffa.Schlesinger ZiszlHerskovits EugéniaBorn in 1896Died in 1975 in IsraelMember of "Mizrahi"Ziszl took part in her husband’s, Schlesinger Yaffe Gabriel, activities. Shewas active with the "Mizrahi" women. She left Hungary in June 1944 onthe train of the Relief and <strong>Rescue</strong> Committee and made aliya.Schönwald Benjamin HaimBorn in Sátoraljaújhely on 15.10.1922Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”Benjamin’s family was religious. In 1943 he was enlisted in a forced laborunit. He escaped and hid at his older bother’s house in the village ofNagymuzsaj (Muzsijeve) in the Carpatho-Ruthenia region Mountains. InApril 1944 Benjamin was discovered by Hungarian gendarmes, arrestedbut, eventually, managed to escape and arrive to Budapest by train.After meeting Rafi Benshalom and Efra Agmon, who were members of“Hashomer Hatzair”, Benjamin joined the members of the movementstaying at the “Glass House” on 29, Vadász Street and soon integratedthe underground activities. He walked the streets of the city wearing anArrow Cross armband and took Jews out of places where they were atrisk to the “Glass House”. After the liberation (18.1.1945) Benjaminobtained food for Jewish orphans. He made aliya.
