Ronen Avraham ‘Bunyu’Landesmann ÁrpádBorn in Kassa (Košice) in 1924Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”Avraham joined the movement in 1938. He learned to be a tailor. In 1941he moved to Budapest and was an instructor in the hostel for apprenticeson Zöldmáli Street where he helped Dan Zimmerman to forgedocuments. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Avrahammoved to Bratislava, Slovakia (re-tiyul). He made contact with Egon Roth,the leader of underground "Hashomer Hatzair". Avraham took part in theSlovak uprising and left for Banská <strong>By</strong>strica. He fought in various places.In Bukovec he served in a unit under the command of Bielov, theRussian. The fighters passed through the Carpatho-Ruthenia regionvillages where hiding Jews joined them and eventually the unit counted70 people. They collected information about the Germans and were sentto blow up railroad tracks and an ammunition factory. Bunyu was thecommander of a patrol. At the end of the war Avraham returned toBudapest (1..4.1945) and was one of the founders of the Ehad BeMaygarin. He made aliya in 1945 on the “Knesset Israel” ship. Avraham wasamong the settlers of Kibbutz Ga’aton. He was a cost accountant,manager of a factory, the kibbutz farm coordinator and head of theRegional Council.Ronen Ya’akov ‘Benito’Rosenberg TiborBorn in Eperjes (Prešov) in 1917Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”Ya’akov joined the movement at the age of fifteen. From 1938 he was amember of the council and secretary of the movement. He dealt with thesmuggling of refugees from Poland and Slovakia, their absorption andequipping them with Aryan documents.In 1942 Ya’akov moved illegally to Budapest and continued with hisunderground activities. At the beginning of 1943 his friend, Ruth Loránd,was arrested and then Ya’akov too was caught. After interrogation hefaced a dilemma: he could either be sent back to Slovakia or to a forcedlabor camp in Hungary. Unaware of the then temporary cessation ofdeportations from Slovakia to Poland, he chose to be sent to a penaltyunit of forced labor. He deserted, crossed the border into Slovakia andjoined his movement’s underground activities.<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 200
