Adler MordehaiAdler GyörgyBorn in Miskolc, on 20.5.1920Fell in the Negba battle on 12.9.1948Member of "Hashomer Hatzair"Mordehai joined the movement at a very young age and was active in itslocal ken. He studied dentistry. <strong>For</strong> a while he joined the outlawedSocialist and Communist parties. In 1941 he enlisted in the Hungarianarmy from which, due to his Jewish origin, he was transferred to a laborunit. In 1944 he deserted, arrived in Budapest and stayed at the "GlassHouse" on Vadász and Wekerle Streets. Mordehai underwent weaponstraining and escorted food deliveries to children’s homes around the city.After the liberation he was a member of the hahshara in Kibbutz EhadBeMay.In 1946 he made aliya and settled in Kibbutz Ma’anit. He later became amember of Kibbutz Yasur and served in the IDF. Mordehai took part inthe Acco and Negba battles. In the battle for Negba he volunteered torescue wounded soldiers who were trapped in a minefield, and was killedwhen he stepped on a mine. He studied printing in Bratislava. In 1942, at the time of the firstdeportations from Slovakia, he helped dozens of his comrades in themovement and other Jews to cross the border to Hungary. In April 1942,while attempting to travel to Budapest, he was arrested by the police inKomárom. He was interrogated about his activities and tortured but didnot give away any information. The police took his father as a hostageand together they were transferred to the Garany detention camp wherehe stayed for three months. While his father remained in the camp,Mordehai was taken back to Komárom for forced labor. He was thentransferred to Budapest where he worked as a porter along the banks of<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 31
